Wait, where did Alex's ebooks go?

Hey there!

So, you might've noticed my Gumroad store is looking bare at the moment. Sadly, I've had to take down all of my ebooks, after being informed that adult content is against Gumroad's terms & conditions now, otherwise they'll delete my account completely.

First off, here's what that means for readers:

If you bought a book through Gumroad, you won't be able to find it in your purchase history any more. If you didn't download it, or have lost the copy, please do get in touch with me (my email is alexp336@gmail.com) as I've saved a backup copy of all the files and purchases since I opened the store. I want to make sure you can keep reading those stories!

If you're looking to add to your Alex Pendragon bookshelf (thank you!) for the moment you can find my available titles at Amazon, Kobo, Smashwords, Apple Books, etc. I have a big list here (which I need to update), and I'm in the process of setting up a new site, but if you search any of the usual ebook retailers I should show up.

A little background...

Creator platforms, like Gumroad, would really prefer creators like me didn't exist. Gumroad's decision to dramatically change its T&Cs - and with basically overnight notice to people using its platform - and forbid adult content usually gets blamed on the delicate sensibilities of payment providers. The fact of the matter is, Gumroad (and other platforms which have made similar policy changes lately, including Etsy just recently) are quite happy to take a cut of our sales, right up until the point that it gets too hard for them to manage.

I'm currently looking at where I could set up a new store, to sell ebooks direct. As you've probably guessed, it's tricky: most use the same, small handful of payment providers to handle credit cards and transfer money to creators, and most of those have jumped on this new "adult content is wicked" bandwagon.

I love having a more direct relationship with readers, offering ebooks through my own site. Even though it takes me a little extra time with each story release, making the different files to suit different platforms. It's possible, though, that I won't be able to find a new home for that.

So, I have a question for you (and if you read this far - thank you!)

How important is it, to you, to be able to buy Alex Pendragon ebooks directly, and get them in epub/pdf format from me, rather than through Amazon, Smashwords, or any of the other retailers? If it's a valuable option to a lot of readers, I'll keep hunting for a new home for that service. If not, though, maybe my time is better spent just writing new stories!

Please, do send me an email at alexp336@gmail.com, and let me know either way 😁

I'm planning to keep running my mailing list, flagging new releases and any other updates. Those emails will be infrequent (nobody likes an overloaded inbox) and if you'd like to no longer receive them, that's absolutely fine. For now, I'm doing it through Gumroad's post system, but I'll keep you updated as-and-when that changes and I have my own site and list up and running.

As always, thank you SO MUCH for your support. I love writing, and I love hearing from readers, and honestly I'd much rather be doing those things rather than trying to figure out which platforms haven't suddenly decided my books are unacceptable.

We're all adults here. Wouldn't it be nice if everyone felt the same way?

Happy reading!

-Alex
